Welcome to Zang and Di, a family-owned real estate company dedicated to restoring distinctive and historic buildings for modern living.
Our approach is simple: owner-designed, owner-built, and owner-managed. We are not short-term developers. We acquire properties with the intention of holding them for the long term, and we approach every building as if it were our own home. From the first floor-plan sketch to construction, technology integration, and day-to-day property management, we stay closely involved in every detail.
We believe a well-restored building should preserve its character while meeting the expectations of contemporary life. Our goal is not simply to renovate old buildings, but to thoughtfully bring them forward for the next generation.
Who We Are
We are PhDs in science and engineering trained at Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering. Beyond our professional backgrounds, we are wildlife and street photographers, collectors, investors, and, above all, people who genuinely love homes and buildings.
Our work reflects both sides of who we are: the rigor of engineering and the romance of art.
Engineering thinking shapes the fundamentals — ergonomic and rational floor plans, structural integrity, modern building systems, integrated technology, energy efficiency, and ease of long-term maintenance. Our artistic side guides the spaces themselves — the proportions, materials, natural light, historical details, and the feeling of being at home.
